Former F1 driver David Coulthard suggested that Red Bull's Max Verstappen should be worried after the 16th round of the 2024 season at Monza Circuit.
The 2024 Italian Grand Prix was one of Red Bull's worst races of the 2024 season so far, with Sergio Perez finishing in P8 and Max Verstappen only in P6.
Red Bull's lead in the Constructors' Championship was reduced by 21 points in this one race, and the team from Milton Keynes now leads only by eight points ahead of McLaren.
Max Verstappen's lead in the Drivers' Championship came down by eight points, and he now leads Lando Norris by 62 points, but it could have been worse had McLaren managed their race better.
The triple World Champion was aware of that, and following the race in Monza, he stated that, with his car's current performance, he didn't expect to win any more races this season.
What's more, Verstappen also expressed concerns about Red Bull's ability to win any of the two titles. Speaking on Channel 4, David Coulthard also asserted the Dutchman should be concerned, as he said:
“"He [Verstappen] should be concerned. I think the whole team are concerned. They haven't built on the upgrades."”
“"Unlike McLaren who have found performance, they haven't moved forward. They need to unlock the performance in that car."”
Coulthard also suggested that turning around a growing losing streak (now six consecutive races without a victory) would be more and more challenging. He added:
“"Right now, he's on a losing streak that's going to be very difficult to turn around unless they come up with something that really ignites that car's performance. They're definitely not as hot as they were. The lap time doesn't lie. They're on the back foot."”
“"The upgrades haven't worked, and they're no longer the benchmark in terms of outright performance. They know that, they can't hide from it."”
