Red Bull Racing F1 driver
Max Verstappen shared his thoughts after winning the 2023
Sao Paulo Grand Prix at
Interlagos Circuit.
Max Verstappen did not make a single mistake during the Sunday race in Sao Paulo and
won the 17th race of the 2023 season after
starting from pole position.
The Flying Dutchman performed a great start off the line
on both race starts, not giving a chance to drivers starting behind him to get ahead before the first corner. As quoted by
formula1.com, the three-time World Champion said.
"It has been a good weekend in Brazil. It was a great race, and we had a good all-round pace throughout. Again, it was a really long stint on the tires, and it was important to save them throughout, as we had high tire degradation.
The high tire degradation did not stop Verstappen from keeping his closest challenger,
Lando Norris, behind. On the other hand, he admitted Norris made his race a bit more challenging.
"Lando had a good race and I had to work to defend in the first lap and maintain the gap. He was close to me in stint one and pushed a bit harder on the newer compounds at the start but I stayed calm throughout the race, just relaxed and let the car roll into the corner."
The McLaren driver said after the race he could not do much better than P2, suggesting there was no chance of finishing the race in front of Verstappen.
"He did well and we had some good racing today. It has been quite a long triple header so looking forward to a few days break before preparing for Vegas.
The Dutchman broke the magical 500-points-in-one-season milestone in Sao Paulo. On the other hand, he is looking forward to the one-week break after three consecutive race weekends.
"I am enjoying the moment, and hopefully, we can continue this success until the end of the year."
