According to a recent report, "factions within Aston Martin" are interested in Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz and want him to join their team in 2025.
Carlos Sainz finds himself in an interesting spot ahead of the 2025 season. On the one hand, his three latest performances prove he deserves a seat on one of the top teams on the gird.
On the other hand, the 29-year-old still has no contract with any of them. Sainz made it clear he wanted to join a team that would give him the opportunity to fight for the championship.
As it stands, there are currently three teams that might be an option for the Spaniard, but all of them also have a couple of different options they might prioritize instead.
The first option is Mercedes. Toto Wolff named Sainz as one of his alternatives, but multiple reports previously suggested that his number one priority is an F2 driver, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who he believes to have immense potential.
Another option for the 29-year-old could be Red Bull, but the team suggested that everything there depends on Sergio Perez's performance.
So far this season, the Mexican driver has performed exactly as the team wants him to. The Austrian team was also rumored to be considering Fernando Alonso.
Lastly, there is Aston Martin. The problem is that the team principal, Mike Krack, openly said the team would like to continue with Alonso and is basically waiting for his decision.
On the contrary, a report from motorsport.com suggests factions within Aston Martin would prefer to have Carlos Sainz join the team in 2025 and lead them into new regulations.
"Sources have revealed that factions within Aston Martin want him to join the Silverstone outfit for 2025 alongside Lance Stroll and lead it into the new F1 rules era from 2026, rather than continue with Fernando Alonso."
Considering the two contradicting messages, Sainz should have a big opportunity in Aston Martin if the double World Champion left the team. Whether the team would really prioritize Sainz over Alonso has not been confirmed.
