Helmut Marko asserted Daniel Ricciardo has to have his younger teammate under control to have a chance at Red Bull.
RB team (formerly AlphaTauri) is a sister team of Red Bull. While RB drivers don't have the championship-winning car, they are part of the Red Bull family and have increased chances of getting a seat on the team from Milton Keynes.
Both RB drivers- Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda, would like to have a chance at Red Bull after the end of the 2024 season because that is when Perez's contract with the Austrian team expires.
It was suggested that the Honey Badger is at the top of Red Bull's potential driver list. However, the Red Bull Racing F1 team's advisor, Helmut Marko, recently suggested the 34-year-old still needs to prove himself. In an interview with ServusTV, he said:
"Ricciardo has to show that he has Tsunoda clearly under control. Then he might be a candidate."
During the most recent season, Ricciardo didn't have enough time to show what he's got because he got into the car in the middle of the season, and then he suffered an injury and was again out of the car for five races.
His Japanese teammate also made a significant step forward in 2023, so beating Tsunoda won't be easy for Ricciardo. But if he wants to drive alongside the triple World Champion, that is what he has to do.
But beating Tsunoda is only the first step for the Australian driver and would not guarantee him a seat in the top team. There are other drivers potentially available to Red Bull, like Carlos Sainz or Alex Albon.
As to when the team from Milton Keynes plans to make their decision concerning the driver lineup for 2025, Marko added: "After the summer break, we could already have certain thoughts ready."
