The 1992 F1 Champion Nigel Mansell shared his opinion on Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari and his chances against Charles Leclerc.

With the start of 2025, Lewis Hamilton's contract with the team from Maranello came into effect, and the seven-time world champion is now officially a Scuderia Ferrari F1 driver.

The 39-year-old already updated his social media profile pictures with an image of his younger self driving a go-kart in a red helmet. He also updated his LinkedIn profile, adding, "Today, I race for Ferrari."

When he announced his contract with Ferrari for the first time, Hamilton said it was his dream. This dream has now become true, but many people now question whether the seven-time world champion isn't too old and whether he has what it takes.

Alpine's executive advisor Flavio Briatore, former Ferrari team principal and current Sauber CTO Mattia Binotto, and former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan all suggested that the Italian team made a mistake in replacing Carlos Sainz with Hamilton.

On the other hand, there are also still people like Nigel Mansell who trust the new Ferrari driver and his abilities. The 1992 Champion told Daily Mail:

"I think that what Lewis has done by deciding to join Ferrari is the most magical thing he could have done. The team is ultra-competitive. They could go for the championship."
"I don't care what anybody says about Lewis. He is a class act. I have always been a fan of his. I was a lone voice for a while."
"He has made me feel very proud that I saw an incredibly talented young man who came and took the F1 scene by storm."
"It won't be easy going against Leclerc but I think it will be healthy. Some people might see Lewis as an underdog but I think those people would be making a huge mistake if they do that.
"I think he will surprise everybody. It might take him a couple of tests to get comfortable but I see a total resurgence at Ferrari.
