Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon shared their feelings after scoring double podium at the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The 21st round of the season in Sao Paulo turned out to be the most successful weekend of the year for Alpine, which jumped into sixth position in the Constructors' Championship.
In total, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly brought home 35 points (with P7 in Sprint and P2 with P3 in Grand Prix), which is the most of all F1 teams on the grid.
Pierre Gasly was incredibly happy already after the race on Saturday as his P7 in the Sprint was the highest Alpine has finished in the 2024 season up until that point.
At that time, the Frenchman had no idea that he would manage to climb from P13 into P3 during the extremely difficult wet Grand Prix race on Sunday. He told the media after scoring a podium:
"Yesterday, the pace in the dry was good; I finished seventh. This morning, we had a very poor quali, a couple of incidents. We didn't get a lap in Q2, so we started far and managed to make 10 positions."
"I'm absolutely buzzing right now! I'm just so proud of the team. To overcome such a tough season… it would have been too easy to give up, but we never gave up, and here we are. Both cars, P2 and P3, a lot of points for the team, and everyone should be very proud today."
Gasly's teammate, Esteban Ocon, was in a better starting position when going into the race - P4, but he also wouldn't dare to dream about a podium.
The 28-year-old Alpine F1 driver made no mistakes throughout the whole race and was even leading at one point, although he was later overtaken by Max Verstappen, who went on to win the race.
Nevertheless, Ocon was more than satisfied with his P2 result. Speaking to the media after the Grand Prix, he suggested the rain was one of the crucial factors that allowed him and his teammate to shine:
"What a day that was. After the difficult season, it's really nice to be driving around here and having the performance a bit leveled out in the rain."
"Someone very important to all of us said a long time ago that in the rain, the cars are almost equal. That phrase didn't age at all, and I'm very happy to be today on the podium."
"I think it's been awesome, and the support I receive here from all the Brazilian fans is incredible. I can't thank everyone enough."
