Lewis Hamilton is one of the best drivers in F1 history, according to some the best, but he still chases one World Championship that would set him apart.
Being tied at the same number of Championships leaves a lot of space for debates and speculation. That's probably one of the reasons why Hamilton would like to be the only eight-time World Champion rather than one of the two seven-time World Champions along with legendary
Michael Schumacher.
However, after missing out on the Championship in 2021, the British driver didn't get a chance to compete for it in the past two seasons, but
that can change in 2024.
Mercedes has improved their car over the past couple of seasons, and that's one of the reasons why their Team Principal,
Toto Wolff, who
has extended his contract with the team, believes that Hamilton can win another World Championship.
The 52-year-old spoke to
The Telegraph, and during the interview, he said that even though the British driver is already 39, the age means nothing if he's given a competitive car.
"There is a reason Lewis is a seven-time world champion, and has broken all the records…his ability is on a different level. If we are able to give him a car that he actually feels, that drives in a way that he can trust, he will be on the level that’s needed to win the championship - 39 is no age."
On top of that, the German feels committed to both of his drivers, Hamilton and also
George Russell to produce a car which would allow them to compete not only for race wins, but also for the Championships.
"We’ve signed a two-year deal with Lewis, and we owe it to him, to George, and to all the team to give it our full attention in 2024 and 2025. I think it’s possible."
