The seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton commented on his team principal, Toto Wolff, amid challenging times for Mercedes.
The last two seasons of Red Bull's dominance have been really challenging for the Mercedes team, which has been used to constantly winning championships ever since 2014.
In a recent interview, the team's principal, Toto Wolff, revealed it has been tough but said he was not thinking about resigning as a team principal. His driver and long-term partner, Lewis Hamilton, said:
"Toto is an amazing leader, I’ve known him for a long time. We joined the team at the same time. It’s been an interesting journey for both of us to both grow with the team, to see his vision grow and progress within the structure of the team."
While Mercedes car lost its competitiveness throughout the last two seasons, the 38-year-old suggested that is not the case for his team principal:
"He hasn't lost an ounce of his competitiveness. He’s massively competitive. You see it on TV when you sit down at his little desk in the garage and is trying to find a balance in life of work life and family life. I think he's done a really great job there."
The Silver Arrows' only goal is to win the Championships. Therefore, second place in the Constructors' Championship is a failure for the team.
Mercedes had to change the concept of their car throughout the season and could never quite match the speed of the Red Bull in the front. Hamilton continued:
"I think it's definitely not been easy for anybody in the team when you're not working towards something, but it's not quite going the way you want it."
On the other hand, the German team has promised a significant change going into 2024, and Wolff recently shared that the simulation times look promising. The 38-year-old added:
"I think there's been a lot of lessons, and I've been really proud to see the progress that he's made just as an individual and as a human being as well."
