Alpine's
Esteban Ocon reflected on the amazing recovery race at the
Las Vegas Strip Circuit after starting from the P16.
Alpine F1 driver Esteban Ocon
did not let his unfortunate qualifying session influence the rest of the 2023
Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend and climbed up the grid to
finish in the final P4.
Multiple F1 fans were starting to question Ocon after multiple unfortunate results in recent races, but the French driver showed everybody what he's got in Las Vegas.
A group of investors, including famous Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, purchased a 24% stake in the Alpine F1 team.
Ocon decided to pay tribute to the Actor by painting his helmet to look like Deadpool's head (the famous character played by the actor), The Alpine driver told F1TV:
"It is an amazing feeling, and I am again alive after [qualifying]. We were injured, but the healing power of the Deadpool helmet made a difference, and it was definitely a crazy race."
Tire management made a big difference during the Las Vegas Grand Prix and while some drivers like
Alex Albon and
Logan Sargeant struggled with their tires, Ocon managed to pull off the one-stop strategy.
"We stayed away from the degradation and graining that everyone had and managed to come from 16th to fourth, so it just feels awesome."
Ocon finished the race ahead of cars like
Mercedes,
McLaren, and
Ferrari of
Carlos Sainz. What's even more important for him is that he beat the only driver he can be compared to, his teammate
Pierre Gasly, who finished in P11. The Frenchman concluded:
"I hope we can keep going like that until the end of the season, and finish in Abu Dhabi on a high. What the team has done this weekend is extraordinary in qualifying and the race, and we can be proud of ourselves."
