Fernando Alonso shared why he likes Max Verstappen and what he thinks he has in common with the triple World Champion.
Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen are two of the only three World Champions on the Formula One grid in 2024, and this will most likely be the case even in 2025.
That is one thing they have in common, but there is more, as the Spanish Matador described in a documentary by DAZN earlier this year. As quoted by Planet F1, he said;
"Verstappen was maybe a bit crazier in his early days and had some incidents and some problems, but now he is a very decent driver on the track."
"Off the track, I see a lot of similarities between him and me. We have the same interests, we love racing. We like the sport more than the show."
Obviously, all F1 drivers like motorsport and racing. However, many of them like to take some time off during summer and winter breaks.
That isn't really the case with Verstappen and Alonso, who race even during the break. The 2023/ 2024 winter break was a great example.
While other drivers started posting images from holidays on social media, the two world Champions went karting and testing GT3 cars at different circuits.
Both the 42-year-old and the 26-year-old don't really have other hobbies, as racing is the primary and only hobby that they have. The Spaniard continued:
"We go to the track in the team's clothes, race on Saturday, and on Sunday, we go home. And when we have some free time, we go racing. We like simple things and racing."
"That is what I like most about Max, and despite his world titles, he has not changed in that [respect]."
Alonso and Verstappen know each other quite well. They raced in Formula One together for 11 seasons, and they will for at least two more, as Alonso has signed a multi-year deal with Aston Martin in 2024.
